“Happiness” - H.O.T.
Infatuation. It’s been five days now, I can’t stop. What to do. I could just move on, pretend I never heard it. People do it all the time, they hear things and they forget them, like it never happened. But this? No, too hard. He’s so cute. I wish I could just kiss him. The one singing the chorus. He’s the heart throb, it’s obvious. Of course, that’s not what keeps me coming back. It’s the verse. Who’s yelling? Grunting? Drill sergeant. But cute too. That voice, it’s like the Ken to Aqua’s “Barbie Girl,” same year, 1996 baby. But it’s not that, it’s more, it goes beyond that. It could be an Infest track, the vocals, it gets me going in the same way. It could be the General too. He’s so excited to tell me about his new car insurance rates. They must be good. It’s the hype track, it bounces and it just keeps pushing forward. Circle of fifths and heavy on the upbeats. This is cartoon sex, it’s a new crush, fervor, it’s the quarterback getting fucking sacked. The marching band launches into “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” (thanks Ari I don’t know my hymns) and the whole stadium is going wild. They can’t stop jumping. They don’t want to stop. This is it. Jumping for jumping’s sake. Why doesn’t all music sound like this? I mean it. Why are people making other music?? It’s really hard for me to say. This is the closest thing to an audible shot of espresso but this is sweeter.

P.S. If you got this in your inbox, it’s because I thought you especially might like seeing it. This is going to be a new place for me to write about what music I’m listening to. There’s only like ten of you right now while I get this thing rolling. If you don’t want to see these in your inbox once or twice a week then there should be a little unsubscribe button down below.
